Visitors of all ages climb three stories, again and again, to slide down the thrilling 165-foot spiral water slider, which ends with a splash in the pool. Inside the museum, interpretive displays tell the region’s long history, spanning from the native Nisenan peoples to the 1960s. The main galleries are filled with photographs, antiques, and a few hands-on displays. The Folsom Powerhouse is part of a colorful chapter of Sacramento history and is also an example of the tremendous advance in the commercial application of electricity. The opening of the powerhouse brought with it a “grand electric carnival” parade through downtown Sacramento and a 100-gun salute from a detachment of soldiers near the substation.

Visitors touring the powerhouse can see the massive General Electric transformers, each capable of conducting from 800 to 11,000 volts of electricity, in addition to the forebays and canal system that brought the water from the dam. The Folsom Railroad Museum is located in a vintage railroad passenger car in Historic Folsom on the railroad block between two historic railroad depots, the Folsom Railroad Depot and the Ashland Freight Depot. The site also boasts a reconstruction of an ‘A’ frame or ‘gallows’ type ‘turntable’ used to turn locomotives, originally erected in 1867.

They maintain a growing collection of railroad artifacts, from date nails and lanterns to documents and maps.
