In 2001 Jamaica Stevens, Founder and Executive Director of JAMaROO Kids (formally known as Discovering the Joy of Dance) decided to combine her knowledge of Child Development with her passion for dance, music, and teaching. Consequently, she created an Introduction to Creative Movement and Dance class for preschool-aged children. In 2004, she was passionate about expanding this program and left her position as Head Teacher at ABC Academy Preschool to embark on teaching these dance classes full time. Soon after she added music classes to complement her dance program, which brought about the realization that there was a need for more enrichment teachers and quality enrichment programs for young children in the Bay Area. Therefore in 2006, Jamaica officially changed the name of the company to JAMaROO Kids and began adding additional programs including Yoga, Art, and Bilingual classes.
