The Black Santa Pop Up was created by a grandmother of 3 , to commemorate an annual culturally festive holiday experience for communities of color. Her grandkids call her Nae Nae. Nae Nae said, “I love memories and photography has always given me the joy to revisit the beautiful times in my life. One holiday season, I wanted to create some memories with my grandchildren to include holiday photos with Santa, specifically a Santa that looked like them.
I soon found out that in the Sacramento area, it was difficult to find a Black Santa if not impossible, so I decided to create a holiday experience for my grandkids and then decided to share that same experience with other families. As a black woman, mother and grandmother, I feel that it is important that our children see positive images of themselves in their own communities that also reflects their culture.”
