Skyline Ranch was first planted in 1958 and has been continuously run by the same family for three generations now. In 1958 when the property was privately owned, 120 acres of land were planted with Christmas Trees over the course of several years. The property was acquired by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District in the early 1980s, but the Christmas Tree Farm is still owned and run today on a lease by the same family that planted the original trees.
The Open Space District has reduced the original 120 acres planted in Christmas Trees to their current 63 acres. Currently, they are planting new trees to bring up available inventory to meet the demand during the Christmas season. They have been planting around 1,000 trees every year since 2006 and plan on continuing to plant more every year to fill out the tree farm to its maximum plantable capacity.
