The fall fun is the name of the game at Goebbert’s Pumpkin Farm near Chicago, where you can pick up all the pumpkins your heart desires and send your kids down the giant pumpkin slide or check out the exotic petting zoo. Before you head home, get lost in the corn maze and check out the pumpkin-eating dinosaur. Visit the Animal Land featuring 50 creatures, or enjoy pony or camel rides.

A year-round farm and farmstead, Goebbert’s Pumpkin Farm and Garden Center boasts over 200 acres of pumpkins and other produce, so if you’re looking to stock up on local produce while finding the perfect pumpkin, look no further. Sweet treats from the on-site café are also in the mix—including housemade fudge.

Johansen Farms & Children’s Zoo is one of the best pumpkin patches near Chicago, with over 25,000 pumpkins at the farm. They have giant pumpkins, small pumpkins, pie pumpkins, fancy pumpkins, or imperfectly perfect pumpkins. Once the pumpkins have been picked, visit more than 500 farm animals—chicks, bunnies, lambs, goats, and piglets—at the farm’s petting zoo. There are also fun, kid-friendly attractions, including miniature golf, pony rides, hayrides, train rides, and air slides.

Johansen Farms has a small kid-friendly corn maze — it’s big enough for all the kids but not too big for them to get lost. There is only one way in and one way out so that parents can keep an eye on the kids. Their bakery sells hot apple cider donuts and freshly baked pies. There is no charge to visit and even just take pictures at the pumpkin patch.

Pumpkins, pig races, and tractor rides make Bengtson’s in Homer Glen, Illinois, a perfect fall getaway. Arrive hungry for apple cider doughnuts, award-winning barbecue, and kettle corn. Then let the kids expend some of that pent-up energy on the Rooster Rodeo rollercoaster and check out the pumpkin chucker as it catapults gourds close to a quarter of a mile. Get a snapshot of the fridge at the free selfie booth before returning to the car.

Bengtson’s Farm is filled with fun, one-of-a-kind, unique attractions that can only be found here. Tractor Town is an exciting six-minute journey with four passengers on a personal tractor ride. This adventure showcases dancing animals, talking tractors, and all the exciting activities the animals enjoy while the farmer is away.

There is a reason this farm calls its fall pumpkin picking “Pumpkinfest”: The number of activities available is boundless. A recently added pumpkin playland hosts activities like corn-stalk tunnels and straw-bale mountains. Ten kinds of kettle corn are made on-site daily, and unusual pumpkins—green, speckled, white—can be picked. Of course, there’s a massive selection of unique, unusual gourds—perfect for porch jack-o’-lanterns.

Pick from eight different pumpkin varieties at this farm. Plenty of round, juicy pumpkins are ready to go home with you, including varieties with speckles, unusual colors, and other eye-catching characteristics. Watch the pig races, ride the kiddie rides, and stop at Grandma D’s bakeshop for yummy apple cider and pumpkin donuts.

Jonamac’s Pumpkin Patch has a vast selection of pumpkins you can pick yourself from its massive 12-acre patch. With thousands of different pumpkins of all different shapes and sizes, you will find a unique “pick of the patch” for each family member. Hop on their hayride for a ride out to the patch, and use one of their wheelbarrows or wagons to help haul your harvest back to the Pumpkin Hut, where you can purchase your pumpkins.

The farm also offers apple picking, a corn maze, and many activities for kids, including a petting zoo and a Barn Yard Play Area (slides, kid fort & wooden maze, play tractor, duck races, trike track, spider web, kiddie barn, straw bale pile, & “Tiny Town” Donut Shop & School House). This two-acre patch just outside Goose Island saves you a trip to the suburbs by bringing a giant corn maze, more than 10,000 pumpkins, ax throwing, carnival games, food trucks, twinkling orange light displays, and more fall fun to the city.

Jacks and children go together like pumpkin and pie. Open every day of the week, during daylight and evening hours. They offer plenty of exciting activities just for the kids. If you are not interested in searching for pumpkins, there are also pumpkins available at the Big Barn. This massive farm is an autumnal wonderland with a pumpkin patch, apple orchard, sprawling corn maze, and a MooChoo ride. The little ones will adore the Kids Farm, complete with pygmy goats and piggies.

Check out the bee yurts, where hundreds of bees work and live, or book your own campfire. There are plenty of sweet treats to buy in the bakery, including freshly baked doughnuts, or take it outside to the campfire to make your own hot dogs or s’mores. Best of all, you can bring home bags of fresh-baked bread, pies, and other fall treats from the orchard’s premises.
